All-on-4 Implant Supported Dentures in Lake Jackson
Unlike traditional dentures which rest on your gums, All-on-4 implant supported dentures are attached to dental implants. Dental implants are titanium posts that are inserted into your jawbone. As the implants heal, they are able to fuse with your jawbone, allowing the implants to form a stable base for your dentures to attach to. This stronger base will let you chew with more pressure and will keep your dentures from shifting.
All-on-4 implant supported dentures will not move around and will not fall out in public. These dentures look and feel natural, and can be maintained as if caring for your natural teeth. If properly maintained and cared for, implant supported dentures can last a lifetime.
How Implant Supported Dentures Work
During your initial visit, Dr. Tredinick will review your medical and dental history, take X-rays of your jaw, and create impressions of your teeth and gums so that she can begin to make models for your dentures.
If you are not already wearing dentures, the doctor will make a temporary set during this time for you to use until your implant supported dentures are ready to be placed. These temporary dentures also allow Dr. Tredinick to determine the best placement for your final dentures, can be used immediately, and can serve as a backup set of dentures in case there is a problem with your implant supported dentures in the future.
The Implant Process
First, titanium dental implants are inserted into the jaw bone. The implants are actually posts that are able to fuse with the bone of your jaw, creating a strong, stable base that your dentures can snap into rather than using adhesives to secure your dentures to your gums. Implant supported dentures are stronger, natural looking, and will not move or accidentally come loose or fall out.
All-on-4 implant supported dentures are a complete set of porcelain or acrylic teeth that can be attached to the upper or lower jaw using only four titanium implants on each jaw. There are two options for completing the implant process: a two-stage procedure or the new Teeth in a Day procedure.
During the procedure, there will be two surgeries. The first surgery is performed to place the All-on-4 implants into your jawbone underneath your gums. After allowing your four implants and your gums to heal for three to six months, a second surgery will be performed to expose the tops of the implants. At this time, the doctor will ensure your dentures fit on your All-on-4 implants correctly and will schedule your follow-up visits and maintenance schedule.
Maintaining your All-on-4 Implant Supported Dentures
Caring for your new implant supported dentures is extremely easy. Coastal Periodontics will help you to schedule regular visits for check-ups and deep cleanings when necessary. When visiting, Dr. Tredinick will ensure your All-on-4 implants continue to fit perfectly and are not shifting or rubbing against your gums or causing sore spots.
When caring for your implants on your own, you’ll merely follow a standard, everyday dental health procedure. This includes brushing, flossing, and rinsing for implants which are fixed in place. If you have implants which are removable, you’ll continue your normal, daily denture cleaning process as before.
What to Expect from Your Implant Supported Dentures
After your All-on-4 implants are placed, they will be more stable than regular dentures. You will no longer have to worry about your dentures becoming loose or falling out. You’ll also find that you once again feel comfortable speaking and that it is easier to speak. You will also be able to return to eating most of your favorite foods or foods that you may not have been able to eat before.
There is a difference in cost between traditional dentures and All-on-4 implant supported dentures. The Coastal Periodontics team can answer any questions you may have regarding cost or insurance coverage. The All-on-4 implant process may also take longer than getting traditional dentures.
